The mission of our lab is to develop new, innovative therapies for neurological diseases as well as developing tools and methods to study the pathophysiolgies of diseases. We find needs from bedside, promote basic research for the proof of concepts, and translate the results for patient care in collaboration with the Department of Neurosurgery as well as other collaborating clinical departments. Our lab’s unique positioning of being led by trained clinicans, who has immense basic research experiences meant that our work can be readily and quickly translated into the clinic, and advantage that we believe gives us an edge in today’s competitive research environment.
Our lab focuses on 5 main objectives: Regenerative medicine, cerebrovascular diseases, medical devices development, tRNA biology in diseases, RNA binding proteins biology, and Developing novel cell imaging technologies. Our Lab is led by Professor Kuniyasu Niizuma as a chair, and Prof Sherif Rashad as an Associate Professor. Our Lab prides itself on being a multicultural, multi-lingual lab where scientists and researchers from various cultural, linguistic, and religious backgrounds can work in harmony to achieve their full potential. Our Lab’s moto is “Diveristy and Equity = Creativity”. This moto have driven our lab over the years to be innovative and to become great environment for researchers to work and achieve their goals.
